Become Leaner With Goal Setting

Many people want to become lean and strong, but few have a clear plan about how to achieve it. Without this plan, they often move aimlessly from one technique to another, waiting for a miracle. What they don’t realize is that you can get a lean body with goal setting.

Trying to get a lean body with goal setting may sound strange. After all, simply setting a goal doesn’t directly change anything about what you eat or what kind of exercises you do. It’s the key to success, however, because you can’t know whether you’re progressing in the right direction unless your goals are clearly defined.

It’s best not to focus your goals on outcomes, though. You can’t actually control how much weight you’re going to lose, or muscle you’re going to gain, in a particular week. For example, your weight can fluctuate by a couple of pounds based on water retention alone, regardless of whether you’re losing fat at the time or not.

If you want to get a lean body with goal setting, you need to focus your goals on your behaviors rather than your outcomes. A behavior is something that you can control directly. You can make it a goal to exercise every day, or to eat within a particular range of calories, and you’re the person who is in control of how many days you meet that goal.

It’s important not to make your short term goals too aggressive. Trying to start exercising for an hour a day if you haven’t been exercising very much at all is going to be next to impossible to achieve, and unsafe as well. Your minimum goals should be set at a level that you can achieve very easily and comfortably, such as exercising for 10 minutes per day. This builds habits that will begin to move you in the right direction.

People who want to get a lean body with goal setting have often tried many other techniques without very much success. The wonderful thing about this approach is that if you meet your behavioral goals, you’re already experiencing success. This makes it easier to keep going and to increase your goals, which will ultimately bring you success by causing the changes that you desire in your lean body.
